Injured UNP parliamentarian gives deadline to party secretary to take disciplinary action
Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party (UNP) Puttalam district parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara has faulted the party's General Secretary Tissa Attanayake for his failure to take disciplinary action against a UNP member who had severely assaulted the MP .
Range Bandara has called for disciplinary action against UNP member Shantha Abeysekara who was arrested and later released on bail over the brutal assault on him just after the General Elections in April.
The UNP legislator has further warned that he would be compelled to re-consider his position in the party if the General Secretary failed to take appropriate action against the accused UNP member in the next few weeks. He is expected to brief the media on his decision within the next two weeks if Attanayake failed to act.
Range Bandara was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following the assault and underwent two surgeries
