Don’t celebrate my b’day: Jaya to cadre

AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa today appealed to her party cadre not to celebrate her birthday, which falls on 24 February, at a time when Tamilnadu was ‘moving towards the path of destruction due to the misrule of the DMK’.

In a statement here, she said since people of the State were reeling under darkness she advised her partymen to desist from celebrating her birthday.

She also appealed to the partymen not to visit her to greet her on the occasion. ‘Instead, AIADMK activists should take steps to mitigate the sufferings of the people to some extent, by providing medical assistance, organising blood donation camps and mass feeding of the poor. This will give immense satisfaction to me on the occasion’, she added.

The AIADMK supremo said the real celebrations would be on the day when the party assumes power in the State. ‘That day is not far off and the AIADMK rule will blossom in Tamilnadu’, she said.

Accusing the ruling DMK of failing on all fronts, Jayalalithaa alleged that the State was moving towards the path of destruction and people were suffering. She alleged that during the four-year DMK rule, the prices of essential commodities like rice, sugar, pulses and cooking oil had spiralled, affecting the poor, and middle class people.

The continued power cuts had put the spokes on industrial development and unemployment was on the rise in the State. The law and order situation was also deteriorating, she claimed.

She alleged that by skipping the Chief Minister’s conference in New Delhi on rising prices and internal security, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had showed that he was not interested in taking steps to reduce the price rise or tackle the law and order in the State.

Docs’ wing meet

Meanwhile, the doctors wing of the AIADMK has resolved on Sunday to mark the 62nd birthday celebrations of party supremo Jayalalithaa by holding health and blood donation camps all over the State. The meeting was presided over by the wing’s president and Member of Parliament Dr V Maitreyan.
