Three people were killed and three others injured when a stray bomb went off in Bhandara Village in Chitwan district on Monday morning. The village lies some 80 kilometer south from the capital city Kathmandu.Police officials said three people of the same family were killed in the incident that occurred when the family was working on the field at the back of their house.
Those killed in the incident have been identified as Janaki Rai, 40, her daughter Ram Maya Rai, 18, and Janaki’s brother Raj Kumar Rai, 24. Raj Kumar, who lived in Hatiya, Makwanpur, was a family guest.
Though police officials maintained that the bomb could have been left by the Maoist insurgents when the civil war was still on, locals suspect that the bomb was used by the Armed Police Force (APF) for training along the border of Bhandara and Piple village.
Police have begun investigation over the incident.
Three others injured in the incident are currently undergoing at local hospital.
A large number of people were killed in stray bomb explosion during the Maoist insurgency that began in 1996 in Nepal. The decade-long Maoist insurgency claimed the lives of over 13,000 people in the Himalayan country
