CHENNAI: A three-member Survey of India team headed by Major-General R Sivakumar on Wednesday began a probe into allegations of land encroachment
by Karnataka high court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran in Kaverirajapuram village in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. Senior revenue department officials and the judge's wife were among the individuals who met the team.
Tiruvallur collector V Palanikumar, who sent two reports to the registrar general of Supreme Court confirming the encroachment on nearly 200 acres of government land, explained to the team how revenue officials arrived at the decision using land maps.
In what could be a new twist to the controversy, joint commissioner of land reforms (Villupuram) A Balasubramani appeared before the team and submitted details on whether Dinakaran, his family members and their companies possessed land in excess to that prescribed by the Tamil Nadu Land Reforms (Fixation of Ceiling on Land) Act, 1961.
According to sources, Balasubramani has concurred with the views of the collector regarding the land holdings. Dinakaran's wife Vinodhini also appeared before the team in Chennai and made a presentation along with her relatives and well-wishers.
