Pakistan police offices attacked

Gunmen have attacked police offices in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore, with a number of people reported to have been killed.

Shots were heard inside one Federal Investigation Agency building, with reports that two more police offices were also under attack.

Some reports say hostages have been taken but this is unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, in the north-eastern town of Kohat, a suicide bomber rammed his car into a police station, killing eight.

North-western Pakistan has been hit by a string of recent deadly attacks.

Training academy

Local television showed armed police sealing off one of the police buildings in Lahore.

Geo News TV reported that five people were being held hostage inside but that has not been confirmed.

Reporters said that 300 to 500 people worked in the building.

One of the other targets was reported to be the Manawan police training academy.

In Kohat, police say the bomber rammed his car into the wall of the police station compound, causing part of the station to collapse with the impact.

Eyewitnesses say that both civilians and policemen are among the dead.

There has been a surge in such attacks over recent weeks.

At the weekend an attack claimed by the Taliban on the military headquarters in Rawalpindi left at least 19 people dead.
