U.S. Ambassador clarifies position on Sri Lanka's accountability issue
While welcoming the appointment of a Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) to probe Sri Lanka's brutal conflict, the United States today clarified its position on implementing a credible and independent process to address the accountability issue.

U.S. Embassy in Colombo goes green, recycles envoy's car
Following the United States Department of State's new commitment to encourage US embassies around the world to make their facilities and operations more environmentally friendly, the Embassy in Colombo has recently shipped the official car once used by the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka to its manufacturer BMW for recycling, an Embassy statement said.

United States announces additional support for demining activities in the Northern Sri Lanka
The United States today announced that it will contribute Rs. 581 million ($5.417 million) for humanitarian demining needs in Sri Lanka from now through next summer.

US government support creates 10,000 jobs in Northern Sri Lanka
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the development office of the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, has recently forged four new business alliances with Sri Lankan private companies, under USAID's Public/Private Alliance (PPA) Program, a press release issued by the Embassy said.

AmCham and U.S. Embassy present a seminar in Colombo on new U.S. Visa application procedures

According to the statement, the U.S. Embassy now requires the use of the newly-developed DS-160 non-immigrant visa (NIV) application which incorporates existing NIV forms into one interactive, online form.
The event will take place on May, 11, 2010, from 9:30am-11:30am at the Colombo Hilton. The seminar aims to provide a better understanding of U.S. visa procedures to company CEOs, HR Managers and other Senior Management Staff.
