‘Shift Rajiv killers' pleas outside Tamil Nadu'
Contending that the atmosphere in the Madras High Court was not conducive for conducting proceedings on writ petitions filed by the three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, the G.K. Moopanar Peravai has moved the Supreme Court for transferring the petitions to itself or to some other High Court for further adjudication.

Implement uniform school syllabus: Madras High Court
In a major set back for Tamil Nadu's AIADMK government led by J. Jayalalithaa, the Madras High Court Monday ordered implementation of a uniform system of school education for Classes 1 to 10 from the current academic year.

Chennai govt moves SC, challenges HC order on uniform syllabus
The state government on Tuesday filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Madras high court asking it to implement Samacheer Kalvi ( uniform syllabus education system ) in schools across Tamil Nadu.

HC grants bail to Tamil Nadu minister's nephew in murder case
The Madras high court Tuesday granted conditional bail to Tamil Nadu agriculture minister Veerapandi S Arumugam's nephew, arrested for his alleged role in the murder of six members of a family near Salem in September.

Chandramohan suspension order stayed
The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the Madras High Court order, suspending R.K. Chandramohan's status as member and consequently as Chairman of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry on the basis of a letter written by Justice R. Regupathi to the then High Court Chief Justice H.L. Gokhale on an alleged incident that happened in his chambers.

Court orders suspension of Chairman of Tamil Nadu Bar Council
The Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the membership of R.K. Chandramohan and consequently his Chairmanship of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry (BCT) forthwith for an alleged attempt to influence a High Court Judge using the name of the then Union Minister A. Raja in a matter relating to an anticipatory bail plea.

Trucks don't need permit to carry construction debris, says HC
Seeking to differentiate between sand quarried from riverbeds after obtaining mining lease and the debris and soil excavated at project sites, the Madras high court has held that lorries need no permit to carry debris in the city.

No relief to TN from SC on DGP's posting
The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to stay a Madras high court order quashing the appointment of Letika Saran as director-general of police of Tamil Nadu, leaving the state government with no option but to abide by the October 8 HC order. According to the HC ruling, which called for greater transparency in appointment of top police officials, Tamil Nadu has to forward a list of senior officers eligible for the DGP's post to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) by October 26.

Court extends stay on Sterlite plant closure
The Supreme Court on Monday extended its stay of a Madras High Court judgment ordering the closure of the copper plant of Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd. at Tuticorin and discharge of its workers on payment of compensation.

Court gives Tamil scholar relief from DMK government

Arrest petition of Lankan Minister on June 14
