Lack of proper industrial policies pushing industries out of Sri Lanka - UNP MP

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa says that the lack of proper industrial policies has compelled industries to move out of the country to other countries in the region.
Pointing out that the government did not have a proper plan to boost businesses, Premadasa noted that some of the key industries in the country have opened up factories in India. According to Premadasa, the government has not provided sufficient tax reliefs to industries resulting in companies setting up factories overseas. "Doing Business 2012", a global survey by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and World Bank comparing 183 countries has ranked Sri Lanka as the best country to do business in South Asia. Sri Lanka ranked 89th while India was placed at 132nd position in the survey. The UNP MP has observed that while the people had expected post-war dividends from the government, the public is yet to receive any tangible benefit even four years after the end of the war. He has added that government has imposed a huge tax burden on the people while government ministers enjoy luxurious lives. -->
