Sri Lanka's national carrier reduces flights to Chennai

Sri Lanka's national carrier SriLankan Airlines today reduced its flights by half on the Colombo-Chennai sector due to recent heated situation in Tamil Nadu.
In a media release, the Airline said that it has observed a drop in traffic between Chennai and Colombo due to recent developments in Tamil Nadu and decided to reduce its frequency of flights to Chennai from 28 to 14 per week, effective from Thursday, 21 March 2013. Under the revised schedule, the Airline will fly two daily flights, departing Colombo in the morning and evening, to facilitate the passengers who board their flights to Middle East and Far-Eastern destinations from Chennai. The Airline said it is closely observing the situation and will take further action if necessary. Flights to other Indian destinations will be operated uninterrupted. Following the recent attacks on Buddhist monks in Tanjavur and Chennai, Sri Lanka's External Affairs Ministry today issued a warning to public against traveling to Tamil Nadu.
