The leadership of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has decided to reappoint the former deputy leader to the Working Committee, the party's decision making body.
Accordingly, Premadasa will be attending the next Working Committee meeting on March 18. The party leader is able to name 20 members to the UNP Working Committee as he sees fit while the appointment of Premadasa was done under that authority, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told local media. Earlier Premadasa was a member in the Working Committee through his deputy leadership but after being removed from the post following the elections to appoint office bearers, he lost the membership to the Working Committee. The UNP Working Committee consists of 85 members.
