Indian authorities on Monday have arrested two Sri Lankan fishermen who drifted into Indian waters after their boat ran out of fuel.
The two Sri Lankan fishermen Chandru (23) and Sumanan (30) from Valvettithurai in Jaffna had set out to sea on their boat on Saturday with 70 liters of fuel, according to a PTI report. They have run out of fuel and began to drift on Sunday night and come ashore at Kodiakkarai in Tamil Nadu, in the early hours of Monday. The local fishermen had sighted the Sri Lankan fishermen and alerted the authorities who have detained the two fishermen with their catch of 25 kg. The Sri Lankans have been charged for violating the Indian Passport Act after they were interrogated by the Coast Guard and the Marine police to ascertain their claims. -->
