Sri Lanka police arrest two, question 30 over journalist's shooting


Sri Lanka police have arrested two people in connection with the shooting of an investigative journalist attached to a English weekly newspaper.
The Mount Lavinia police Sunday arrested two suspects over Friday night's shooting of Sunday Leader journalist Faraz Shukataly. The police launched an immediate investigation on Saturday and the Criminal Investigation Department has had questioned over 30 people and recorded their statements. Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa ordered an immediate investigation into the shooting. The journalist was shot at his residence in Mount Lavinia by three unidentified men who had entered his room on the top floor of the house. Shukataly, who has received injuries to his neck, underwent surgery and is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. He is out of danger, according to hospital authorities. The journalist has reportedly received death threats before but has not made any formal complaints with the police. The police are conducting investigations. -->
