Sri Lanka Opposition Leader seeks probes on racial violence in the country

Sri Lanka Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe today inquired whether the government would conduct a probe regarding the attacks against Muslims and their mosques.
The Opposition Leader said that such incidents had taken place in Kurunegala district. He declined to publicize the information saying he does not want to worsen the situation in the island. Instead, he said that he would submit the facts in writing. He said the government should launch an independent probe into the alleged inaction of police on investigating complaints on religious extremism. The Chief Whip of the government Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva declined the charges. He said that the Opposition Leader's statements based on newspaper reports that exaggerate the minor incidents add to communal disharmony. He further said that certain groups are conspiring to ignite communal violence aiming to destabilize the government.
