Minister Basil Rajapaksa appointed as national organizer of Sri Lanka Freedom Party

The Central Committee of Sri Lanka Freedom Party,the main constituent party of Sri Lanka's ruling alliance has unanimously decided to appoint Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa as the party's National Organizer.
The SLFP Central Committee 27th February decided to appoint Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa as the party's National Organiser. The decision was taken at the central committee meeting held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees. The post of National Organizer fell vacant following the death of former Minister Anuruddha Ratwatte. Minister Rajapaksa, younger brother of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, directed the SLFP's Presidential Election campaigns of 2005 and 2010. He is the SLFP leader of Gampaha District. The Minister is also in charge of several massive development programs including Uthuru Vasanthaya for the North, Negenahira Nawodaya for the East and Divi Neguma under President Rajapaksa's guidance. He entered the parliament as a member for the first time at the April 2010 General Election having contested from the Gampaha District and wining with 425,861 votes. It was the highest number of votes received by a candidate at that election in Sri Lanka.
