Sri Lankan minister says police should be investigated for not acting to prevent violence

Sri Lanka Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesperson, Keheliya Rambukwella says the police should be investigated for not acting to prevent violence during protests. He has said that an investigation should be held to inquire the reason for the failure on the part of the police to act against the violence during protests held against the impeachment of the Chief Justice in Colombo. Protesters participating in an anti-impeachment protest at the court complex in Hultsdorf were assaulted by another group carrying large poles and stones. Video footage captured by some private electronic media showed police personnel standing by when the protestors were being assaulted. Rambukwella has said that an investigation should be held into the matter when the media had questioned him why the police had not acted to stop the protesters from being attacked during the protest. "If the police did not do anything, it should be investigated," the Minister has added.
