Sri Lanka Opposition Leader calls for people to join forces to topple the government

Opposition Leader of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremasinghe says that people have to join forces to take to the streets to topple the government. He has said that democracy could be saved only by taking the fight to the streets. Addressing an event at the National Lawyers Union in Rajagiriya, he has observed that the impeachment of the Chief Justice had proved that democracy and law and order were at stake in the country. Wickremasinghe has added that a country could never progress without democracy or law and order. According to Wickremasinghe, professionals, intellectuals, working people, students and everyone need to unite to fight to save democracy by toppling the government. He has also taken a swipe at the media saying that some media personnel who had obtained laptop and vehicle loans from the government had tried to sabotage the main opposition United National Party's (UNP's) actions.
