Sri Lanka Urban Development Authority to revive five state enterprises

Five loss making state enterprises have been handed over to the Urban Development Authority, which comes under the President's direct purview, for revival, says the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundara.
Chalmers' Granary, Inter Trade Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., Lanka Tractors Ltd., Suchi Neb Project (Pvt) Ltd. and Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation are the five loss making state enterprises. The Sri Lankan government last year called for proposals to lease out nine acres of the unused Chalmers Granary in the heart of Colombo for a joint venture commercial development. The assets will be revived under the guidance of the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The Finance Ministry Secretary further said that four more state assets have been given for Ministry of Public Affairs. The government last year took over some 37 businesses that have not performed up to the government's expectations under the "Revival of Underperforming and Underutilized Assets" act approved in the parliament. -->
