The Education Ministry of Sri Lanka has decided to restructure its functions following continuous crises in the country's education sector.
Education Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Jayaratne has said that the Ministry would restructure the functions of departments under its purview.
He has observed that the Ministry would increase its supervisory role over the work of the Examinations Department, which has become the center of many controversies in the past few months. He had added that all aspects would be considered when restructuring the Ministry affairs and that suggestions from the public were also welcome. According to Jayaratne, under the restructuring programme the internal administration of the Examinations Department would be re-developed. He has explained that the Ministry would look at capacity development of officials and monitoring them while also putting in place a review system. The Ministry Secretary has noted that the teaching sector in the country would also be revamped and that teachers who had worked at national schools for over 20 years would be immediately transferred.
