The Ceylon Teacher Services Union (CTSU), an education sector trade union in Sri Lanka has called on the government to annul this year's Grade 5 Scholarship Examination and re-conduct it.
CTSU Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe alleged that the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination papers have been leaked in some areas and irregularities in the examination were reported from several areas.
He said
that on Saturday (25) evening the second paper of the scholarship exam was provided to students and parents at private tuition classes in Debarawewa, Padaviya Ruwanpura area, Rambukkana town, Anuradhapura and Polgahawela. According to Jayasinghe, the government therefore has to re-conduct the examination. Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has commenced probing allegations that the Grade Five Scholarship exam papers leaked in advance of the Sunday's examination. Examinations Commissioner W.M. Pushpakumara has written to the Inspector General of Police calling to open an investigation into reports about irregularities in the exam.
