Opposition Leader criticizes work at Sri Lankan Government Printer's Department

Opposition Leader of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremasinghe says there is no confidence in the work carried out by the Government Printer's Department since the post of Government Printer is vacant. Wickremasinghe has posed the question to parliament about the validity of the ballot papers that would be printed for the upcoming elections in the absence of a Government Printer.
He raised the issue in the parliament yesterday in reference to the appointment of an additional secretary of the Mass Communication Ministry to cover the work of the Government Printer. He has observed that due to the failure in appointing a Government Printer, there were doubts over the validity of all public documents including birth certificates and judicial documents printed at the Department. He explained that while there is an official appointed to cover the work of Government Printer, there is not even an acting Government Printer since such a post had not been officially created. According to Wickremasinghe, there is currently no one responsible for the work at the government press. Responding on behalf of the government, Chief Government Whip and Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has said the government would look into the matter
