Ceylon Teachers Union files a motion in Supreme Court against education authorities

Ceylon Teachers' Union (CTU) today filed a motion in Supreme Court of Sri Lanka against the authorities not implementing the Supreme Court order to issue z-scores anew in relation to the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination.
The motion is pertaining to the ruling of Supreme Court to void the z-scores in response to a fundamental rights petition filed by the CTU with 16 students that sat for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in 2011. CTU cites in its petition that the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission had not taken any action to issue the new Z-scores in accordance with the court ruling even three weeks after the court order. The Supreme Court ordered the University Grants Commission to recalculate the Z-score separately for students who took the exam under the old and new syllabuses. CTU points out that the authorities are passing the responsibility to each other whilst the Supreme Court has clearly ordered the University Grants Commission to issue the new Z-scores. /div>
