Director General of Media Center for National Security Lakshman Hulugalla says that the former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka who was released from jail recently has asked for special security.
The official said that Fonseka has made his request in writing. He has stated in his letter that his life was under threat from the Tamil Tiger rebel associates. Therefore, Fonseka has asked for security provided him from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD). Fonseka has said that 13 MSD personnel have been assigned for his security, but that it was insufficient given the threat to his life. He has pointed out that he will need security of at least fifteen officials. Hulugalla said the letter will be considered extensively. However, a final decision has not been taken so far, he says.
