Sri Lankan President hands over 43 houses to war veterans in Polonnaruwa district

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa Saturday handed over to the families of war veterans 43 houses built in the Polonnaruwa District under 'Api Wenuven Api' housing project that is being implemented throughout the country.
The President symbolically presented one of the houses built in Elehera Karandagolla of Polonnaruwa district to the family of Airman J. E. M. G. Ekanayake.

Other families received the keys at a ceremony organized at Bakamuna Mahesen Madya Maha Vidyalaya today.
The 'Api Wenuven Api' programme has constructed 220 houses for war veterans in the Kandy, Kurunegala, Matara, Hambantota, Badulla and Moneragala districts so far.
A gem businessman in Elehera area U G Muthubanda donated a sum of 1 million rupees to the President to be deposited in the Api Wenuven Api fund.
Polonnaruwa district parliamentarian and Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena, Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Deputy Minister of Social Services Chandrasiri Suriyarachchi, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, North Central province Governor Karunaratne Divulgane, Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, commanders of the tri forces and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga also participated.
