A Sri Lankan court has today ordered that former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka be moved from a private hospital to a state owned hospital due to security concerns.
Colombo High Court has directed
the Commissioner General of Prisons to move Fonseka out of Nawaloka Hospital and to admit him to the Colombo National Hospital. Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, Ashoka Hapuarachchi has informed court today that it was difficult to provide security to Fonseka while he is receiving treatment at a private hospital. However, the Assistant Commissioner has said security could be provided if Fonseka was treated at the Colombo National Hospital. Fonseka's lawyer had objected to the move, but the High Court has overruled the objection. Courts have said that Fonseka could receive treatment from Dr. Vajira Tennakoon at the state hospital after receiving approval from the Health Ministry Secretary. Fonseka was admitted to the Nawaloka Hospital for treatment for acute bronchitis on April 25th.
