Sri Lanka Minister of External Affairs leaves for US tomorrow

Sri Lanka Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris will leave for the United States tomorrow, May 14, sources at the Ministry of External Affairs said.
The Minister is visiting the U.S. at the invitation of Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. Prof. Peiris is scheduled to meet the Secretary Clinton on May 18th at the State Department to hold discussions on Sri Lankan government's plan to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). A U.S. sponsored resolution adapted by the United Nations Human Rights Council at its 19th session in Geneva earlier this year calls the Sri Lankan government to present an action plan within a year on the implementation of the LLRC recommendations. During his four-day visit the Minister is expected to meet representatives of the U.S. Senate and Congress. President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, MP Sajin Vas Gunawardena and Minister of Environment Anura Priyadarshana Yapa are slated to join the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the tour
