Sri Lanka Opposition Leader holds talks with Indian official on resettlement of displaced Tamils

Sri Lanka's Leader of Opposition and the main opposition United National Party has met with the India's External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna on Tuesday and held discussions on the resettlement of the displaced Tamil civilians in the North. Wickremasinghe,
who is on a visit to India to attend a political conference along with the former President Chandrika Kumaranatunga has said that there must be an agreement between the Sri Lankan government and opposition on the resettlement issue. "We had a good discussion on what the further outcome should be. The UNP (United National Party) stand is it should be Sri Lankan solution, which can be based the LLRC (Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission) report, and there must be agreement between government and opposition parties," he has told Indian media. He has noted that the rehabilitation process is currently progressing albeit some problems cropped up that are of concern to the opposition and the issue would be raised in the parliament next month. He further said that he has visited the North last month and got a full report on the process. "We want a speedy resettlement done in the north. There have been delays, I must say, there are problems, which are yet be addressed. But we are committed to speedy resettlement and we will push on that," he added.
