A legislator of Sri Lanka's Democratic National Alliance (DNA), Jayantha Ketagoda says the finding of hand grenades near the Hultsdorf Court Complex could be aimed at preventing the protest scheduled to be held outside the Court Complex today (8) to mark the second anniversary of DNA Leader Sarath Fonseka's arrest.
The protest has been organized by the People's Movement for Democracy, an organization launched by the DNA to fight for Fonseka's freedom. Sri Lanka elite police, Special Task Force (STF) acting on a tip found nine hand grenades in the court complex Tuesday. Two grenades were found near the Deputy Inspector General's (DIG) office and another seven found in an area near Mihindu Mawatha in Keselwatta. Ketagoda, who is also a member of the People's Movement for Democracy, has observed that the people cannot be misled by such conspiracies as they are now aware of such tactics. He has added that the protest would go ahead as planned and would not be deterred by moves to sabotage it. Ketagoda has also called on the people to participate in today's protest.
