Leader of the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) and Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister of Sri Lanka Douglas Devananda says that Indian authorities were responsible for the delay in completing the housing project for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North.
Devananda has made this comment at the Jaffna-Kilinochchi District Development meeting in reference to the progress in the Indian funded housing project in the North.
The Minister, who chaired the meeting, has said that the Indian authorities were responsible for the delays in construction and handing over of houses funded by the Indian government. The District Secretaries of Jaffna and Kilinochchi were asked to provide reports on the progress recorded in the Indian housing project. According to Devananda, he would initiate appropriate action depending on the contents of the report that would be handed by the two district secretaries. The Indian government has pledged to construct 50,000 houses in Sri Lanka, out of which 46,000 are to be built in the in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
