Sri Lanka sends Navy contingent for UN Peace Keeping Mission in Haiti

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has sent a contingent of 44 naval personnel to the United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Haiti. The contingent left on Sunday (07) included 2 officers, 10 senior sailors and 32 junior sailors.
The Navy contingent will be joined by 118 army personnel and 41 air force personnel. According to the SLN, the naval contingent completed their training at the United Nations Peace Keeping Operations Training Center in Kukuleganga and passed out at Armoured Corps Regimental Headquarters at Modara to take on their UN Peace Keeping duties in Haiti. Sri Lanka currently has 950-strong contingent of troops deployed for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). Since 2000, 12,210 army soldiers, 600 navy, 610 air force personnel and 572 policemen had served in the UN Peacekeeping forces.
