Sri Lanka Education Minister refuses Opposition Leader's request for a PSC on A/Level results

Education Minister of Sri Lanka Bandula Gunawardena rejected the request by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe to appoint a parliamentary select committee (PSC) to probe the mess-up in the 2011 GCE Advanced Level examination results.
Gunawardena said there was no need for such a PSC when Wickremasinghe made the request in parliament. Wickremasinghe has said that when he served as the Education Minister, a former Examinations Commissioner had to resign from his post after a GCE Ordinary Level examination paper had been leaked. He has added that the UNP government was in the process of scrapping the Z score system since it was unfair for the students when the government was undemocratically dissolved in 2004 by the then president. He has further noted that authorities should provide more access to students to gain entrance to universities. According to Wickremasinghe, the recent blunder in the A/Level results has cast serious doubts over the credibility of the examination system in the country.
