Protest to mark two year anniversary of former Sri Lanka army commander's arrest

People's Movement for Democracy is planning to hold a massive protest demonstration in Colombo demanding the release of former Army Commander and presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka.
The protest demonstration will be held in Colombo on February 08, the two year anniversary of his arrest. He was arrested by state on February 08, 2010, several days after his defeat in the presidential elections held on January 26. He was later convicted of charges against the state and punished by two courts martial and civil courts. Currently, Fonseka is serving a 30-month prison term handed by the court martial and a three-year term imposed by the civil court. The Movement for Democracy has called for the participation of the political parties, civil society organizations and activists to participate in the protest demanding the release of Sarath Fonseka.
