Imprisoned former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka congratulated High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara, who was promoted to the Court of Appeal.
Judge Wijesundara was the chairman of the tri-member panel of High Court judges that jailed Fonseka for making a wrong statement that the state security forces fired and killed the Tamil rebels who were approaching security forces with white flags to surrender.
The trial-at-bar comprising judges Wijesundera, W.M.P.B. Warawewa and M. Zurfick Razeen on November 18th sentenced Fonseka to three years in prison in the White Flag case.
As he was escorted out of the High Court today after the hearing of another case against him, Fonseka applauded the judge stating he expected that promotion for Ms. Wijesundara.
Fonseka further stated that since justice could not be expected in this country and the international community would be made aware about the tragedy he faces.
