Sri Lankan government minister calls for all Tamil parties to unite to solve ethnic issue

The Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister of Sri Lanka Douglas Devananda says the ethnic issue could be solved only if all Tamil political parties unite.

The EPDP Leader observed that the Indo-Lanka accord was a good opportunity to solve the ethnic issue, but it failed since all parties could not agree to it.

According to Devananda, the Tamil parties have missed many opportunities to resolve the ethnic issue during the previous regimes and they should not let it happen again.

Issuing a press release under the title, "Say no to past mistakes and let us make use of this opportunity", Minister Devananda points out that all Tamil parties needed to unite and engage in this process.

He added that the Tamil political parties needed to participate in the proposed Parliamentary Select Committee to find a solution to the ethnic issue and all parties needed to put forward their proposals.

Praising the talks held between the government and the major Tamil party Tamil National Alliance (TNA) TNA The Minister emphasized that the Parliamentary Select Committee process presents the best opportunity to a lasting solution and the focus should be on solving the problems faced by the Tamil community.
