Sri Lanka Minister calls on communities to unite to achieve many victories

Housing and Construction Minister of Sri Lanka Wimal Weerawansa says the country could achieve many victories if all communities work in unison.

He has said that some international forces wanted to see divisions between the communities in Sri Lanka, especially, the Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims for their petty agendas.

"We should not allow it. We can defeat that challenge by standing united," Weerawansa has said at a public event in Kotahena.

He has observed that the country has finally achieved peace after years of war and many people, especially, in the North and East, have suffered due to it.

He has added that the government has commenced an accelerated development programme in the North and East Provinces in order to address their needs.

However, Weerawansa has pointed out that a key challenge before the government is to heal the psychological wounds suffered by the people who lived in the once war torn areas.
