Sri Lanka major opposition party leader to grant power to his competitor

Opposition Leader and the leader of Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremasinghe has decided to grant his competitor Karu Jayasuriya the party Working Committee membership. Former Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya lost his working committee membership as he was defeated in the election for the post of party leader to the incumbent leader in a wide margin.
Wickremasinghe is to appoint Jayasuriya to the Working Committee through his powers as the party leader. The UNP leader was reportedly under pressure from his camp not to grant powers to Jayasuriya but he overcame such pressure. Meanwhile, Jayasuriya has vowed to continue the struggle for reforms and work to unite the party and build it to become a strong opposition.
