Rejecting speculations that there will be a new opposition leader in the parliament, the current Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe asserted today that he will continue to hold his position as the incumbent.
Responding to concerns over a possible change in opposition leadership before the conclusion of the budget debate on December 21, Wickremasinghe assured that there will be no change in his position when party bearers are appointed by the United National Party (UNP) on Sunday.
Wickremasinghe said he is only interested in bringing about a regime change in the country.
The UNP Working Committee is to meet on December 18 and the announcement to appoint new office bearers will be made at the meeting.
