Former Deputy Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition vows to work to develop a democratic party

Former Deputy Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP), Karu Jayasuriya says he would stand by truth and justice and would work towards the building of a strong democratic UNP. He has said
the UNP members and supporters could not be fooled forever and that truth will emerge victorious at some point. He has told the media in Kandy that four mahanayakes had for the first time in the country's history had made a proposal to the UNP and therefore they needed to be explained of the outcome of the election to appoint office bearers. "We have always protected the UNP and will work to unite the party and build it to become a strong opposition party," he has observed. According to Jayasuriya, an opposition is needed to raise a voice about the wrongs being committed in the country and therefore a strong opposition is required by the people.
