Chief Whip of Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) John Amaratunga told a local radio channel that the party had not discussed offering a national list seat in the parliament for Mano Ganeshan, the leader of Democratic People's Front.
He further said that the party had not also asked the national list MPs D. Swaminathan and R. Yogarajan to resign from their seats.
Unconfirmed reports said that the UNP would appoint him as a national list MP after urging another Tamil MP to resign.
However, Ganeshan has said that the UNP has agreed to offer a slot from the national list to his party at the 2010 general elections and the UNP should adhere to that agreement.
The Democratic People's Front leader recently resigned from his seat in the Colombo Municipal Council.
