Sri Lanka's jailed former Army Commander not shown to doctors, charges opposition

Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Tissa Attanayake and parliamentarian Jayalath Jayawardena visited the jailed former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka today at Welikada prison.

Following the visit, UNP General Secretary told the media that Fonseka had not been given due medical treatment.

He said the authorities of Welikada prison had neglected giving special medical treatment to Sarath Fonseka.

Fonseka was to be examined by specialist of the Nawaloka Hospital but he was not taken there following the sentence of the 'white flag' case for which he was sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment.

Fonseka, who was seriously injured in a suicide attack by a Tamil Tiger when he was the Army Commander, needs regular medical care.
