Sri Lanka President celebrates birthday by offering gifts to kids

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa celebrated his 66th birthday today attending religious events and offering gifts to children.

The President attended religious events organized at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena today (18) to celebrate the occasion.
Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharadhipathi Ven. Prof. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkhitha thera tied a protected thread to bless the President. Ministers Basil Rajapaksa and Mervyn Silva also participated in the event.


At the Vidyalankara Pirivena the Kolaba Halawatha Pradhana Sangha Nayaka, Vidyalanakara Parivenadhipathi and Chancellor of Kelaniya University Ven. Prof. Welamitiyawe Kusaladahamma thera placed the sacred reliquary on President's head to administer blessings.


At the celebration held in Temple Trees today, the President distributed gifts to 1,100 children born on the same day as his birthday. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa also joined the occasion.
