Sri Lanka opposition party to decide on filing a petition against Kolonnawa UC results

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) is to decide this week whether the party would file a petition against the election results of the Kolonnawa Urban Council.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has said that the party considered handing a petition against the Kolonnawa UC election results since the people in the area faced severe intimidation and a terror situation was created in the area on the day of the election.

He has said that many people in the Mulleriyawa area were affected by the violence in the area.

According to Attanayake, although polling ended at 4 p.m. on Saturday, the people in Mulleriyawa lost the opportunity of casting their votes after 3 p.m. due to the clash between two rival groups of ruling party supporters.
