Sri Lanka major opposition party team in Colombo MC rejects leader's choice for chief organizer

The United National Party (UNP) ruling team of Colombo Municipal Council has reportedly ignored a request from the party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe at the first meeting of the team, sources say.


Wickremasinghe had reportedly advised the party team to appoint Councilor Krishan John Ram as the chief organizer of the team but the team has elected senior councilor Sunil Ananda Vithanage for the post.

Novice councilor John Ram, the son of the UNP Western Provincial Councilor C.P.Y. Ram did not participate in the meeting held in the official residence of the Colombo Mayor M.J.M. Muzammil.

Ram who came second in preferential votes reportedly wanted the Deputy Mayor position although the party appointed senior councilor Titus Perera.
