Sri Lanka's governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), Milinda Moragoda has said he would respond to the challenge put forward by main opposition United National Party (UNP) mayoral candidate A.J.M. Muzammil.
Muzammil at a public rally a week ago has challenged Moragoda to a live debate on the issues faced by the Colombo city and its future development.
Muzammil has said that his policy can be and would be implemented unlike the false hopes and unrealistic dreams of the government.
"I invite Mr. Moragoda to join me for a debate on television to decide who the better candidate is," Muzammil was quoted in the media.
The debate could be moderated by a person agreed to by both parties, he has added.
Sources close to Moragoda have told the media that Moragoda would respond to Muzammil's challenge.
