Petroleum Minister of Sri Lanka Susil Premajayantha says the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has received permission from the cabinet subcommittee monitoring fuel imports to the country to import low sulphur fuel oil to the Yugadhanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya.
Premajayantha told ColomboPage that the CPC has already placed the order and the shipment would arrive in the country shortly.
He said that until the low sulphur fuel is imported to the country, the CPC would supply diesel to the power plant to generate electricity.
He added that the shipment due to arrive in the country would provide low sulphur fuel that would last for a period of six months.
According to Premajayantha, the power generation at Yugadhanavi would not be affected due to the delay in importing low sulphur fuel.
