Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa returned to the country early Saturday morning, after a successful four-day official visit to China, the state-run radio Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation reported.
During his visit he met the Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and attended a luncheon hosted by the Chinese President Hue Jintao.
The President also participated in the opening ceremony of the 26th World University Games, Summer Universiade held in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China yesterday as an honored guest.
During the bilateral discussions held with the President, the Chinese Premier has assured the fullest support of his country to Sri Lanka in all necessary situations and in international forums as China is committed to strengthening the friendship with Sri Lanka.
The Chinese leader has reiterated that his country will always extend support to safeguard Sri Lanka's territorial integrity.
The Beijing Foreign Studies University in China honored the visiting President by conferring an Honorary Doctorate. The President also opened the new Sri Lanka Research Centre at the Foreign Studies University in Beijing on Thursday.
