The Elections Commissioner and Assistant Elections Commissioners are to hold a special meeting on Monday (15) to discuss the elections to be held for the remaining local government bodies in Sri Lanka. Elections are scheduled to be held in October 17 for the remaining 23 local government bodies. Additional Elections Commissioner, W.P. Sumanasiri told the media that
one of the key issues to be discussed at the meeting is the acceptance of nominations lists. The Assistant Commissioners are also to be briefed on holding successful elections to the remaining local government bodies . The Elections Department has announced that nominations for the LGP polls would be accepted from August 18 till 25. The 23 local bodies holding elections in October include 17 municipal councils, one urban council and five Pradeshiya Sabhas. All municipal councils in major cities including Colombo, Dehiwala - Mount Lavinia, Gampaha, Negombo, Kandy, Galle, Matara, Hambanthota, Kurunegala, Matale, Badulla, Anuradhapura and Ratnapura are to hold polls.
