Sri Lanka Police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody speaking to Sinhala daily Lankadeepa defended the police inaction against the illegal mobilization yesterday of a club-wielding mob of around 1,000 men at Dharmapala Road, Colombo.
The police spokesman apparently tongue-in-cheek said that there was no practice of arresting persons having clubs in their hands because they could be used to beat dogs too.
When the newspaper asked about the traffic jam the mob created, the police spokesman said that there were traffic congestion in Katunayake Free Trade Zone as well.
The police spokesman said that there were no complaints against the persons with clubs in their hands.
The newspaper reported with photos of the club wielding mob that had been brought to Dharmapala Road in eight buses parked near the Viharamahadevi Park.
Lankadeepa newspaper reported that the mob later marched towards the Town Hall.
