Sri Lanka's standard time website inaccessible

The website launched by Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday to announce the standard time of Sri Lanka is inaccessible, local media reported.


Quoting an Internal Trade Ministry official local media reported that the site was affected by severe lightning experienced yesterday.

Sri Lanka Measurements and Standards Services Department created this website as state gazetted the standard local time since midnight yesterday.

The site should be accessed via www.sltime.org to adjust to the standard time.

Various media and telecommunication firms were showing time with differences and the government decided to gazette the standard time as a solution to the problem.

Standard time of Sri Lanka is 5 hours 30 minutes in advance of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

All electronic media and telecommunication companies are required to display it as the official time of the country.
