DMK front pulling each other's legs: Vijayakanth

DMDK chief and AIADMK ally Vijayakanth on Friday alleged that parties in the DMK-led front were trying to pull each others' legs ahead of the April 13 Tamil Nadu elections and were bothered only about the fortunes of their own party and not their alliance partners. Addressing an election meeting in Sulur on the outskirts, Vijayakant said that contrary to claims in sections of the media and by some leaders of the rival front, there was no friction in the AIADMK-front.

The cadre and the leaders in the AIADMK front were "united and (would) work for the victory of every candidate, irrespective of party affiliation", he claimed. He added the front had been formed to work for the welfare of the people, who he said were facing lot of hardship in the DMK regime. However, the alliance partners in the DMK-led front were "trying to pull each others' legs" and were "working only for their party candidates, without bothering about others", he alleged.
He added the DMK Government, which was making "tall claims" about having fulfilled the promises it made during the 2006 assembly elections, had failed to implement the Avinashi-Atthikadavu drinking water project. Similarly, the Hogenakkal Drinking Water Scheme was a non-starter, he claimed. Referring to DMK's allegation that the Election Commission was biased towards the opposition, Vijayakanth said the ruling party "was sure of its defeat at the hustings" and had started blaming the EC because it was not able to distribute money to the voters, through the vigilant eyes of the Commission.
On the visuals in the media that show him asking some AIADMK workers at a campaign meeting waving their party flag to stop doing so, Vijayakanth said the flags had come in the way of seeing the public.
