Sri Lanka's Petroleum Minister says no hike in local fuel prices yet

Sri Lanka's Petroleum Minister Susil Premajayantha has said there is no plan yet to increase the local fuel prices in line with the rising global fuel prices.

Premajayantha has told the media that the global fuel price hike that has been triggered due to civil unrest in Libya would not have an impact on local fuel prices for the time being.

According to Premajayantha, the country has a month's stock of fuel and has already placed orders for another half a month.

He has explained that since these purchase shave been made on the previous prices, there would not be an impact on local fuel prices yet.

The Minister has pointed out that the global fuel prices always increased whenever there was turmoil in the Middle Eastern region.

The price of a barrel of diesel has now risen to US$ 121.
